World Milk Day Kicks off National Dairy Month Promotions
On World Milk Day on June 1, ADA North East launched its annual retail Fill a Glass with Hope® campaign at Weis Markets in Enola, Pa., asking shoppers to round up their change at checkout throughout the month. Independent small grocers including Dash’s Market, Kennie’s Market, Big M and Market in the Square are also running the charitable milk promotion through June, and Price Chopper is extending the promotion through July 18, to help food banks provide fresh milk to families in need.
ADA North East is also working with the Milk Processor Education Program (MilkPEP) to promote dairy in stores and through eCommerce this month with the campaign for the new Supergirl movie. The campaign focuses on milk’s protein package to help build stronger muscles – just like the superhero.
Retailers participating in the in-store and eCommerce Supergirl campaign include ShopRite, TOPS Markets and Price Chopper. ACME/Safeway, Giant Carlisle and Stop & Shop are promoting the campaign in-store only and Weis Markets is promoting it through eCommerce.
As part of ADA North East’s partnership with women’s professional basketball team the Washington Mystics, a summer retail campaign with Giant Landover stores gives shoppers the chance to win tickets to a game. By purchasing a gallon or half gallon of milk along with any three Nabisco or Mondelez food products through August 28, customers can enter to win four tickets.
Also this summer, many retailers will be promoting summer grilling by cross-merchandising different dairy products with grilling essentials. For example, placing cheese near burger patties or butter next to sweet corn saves shoppers a step and ensures they add dairy to their shopping carts. ADA North East’s retail team supports store managers in securing these secondary placements.
“Our retail team has developed long-term relationships with retailers across the region, resulting in a win for both of us through boosted dairy sales,” said ADA North East CEO John Chrisman. “Our summer campaigns are examples of new and long-standing promotions adopted by retailers thanks to dairy farmers’ checkoff investments.”
