SYRACUSE, N.Y. – American Dairy Association North East is offering three free Virtual Farm Tours this fall, hosted by dairy farmers in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York. The tours have drawn more than 1.5 million views since the program began in 2018.

Henry Byma from By-Acres Farm, Wantage, New Jersey, hosted the first tour of the season that drew more than 5,000 students from nearly 330 classrooms.

“It was an honor to tell the story of our New Jersey farm and where milk comes from to over 5,000 kids,” said Byma. “It’s great to use this virtual technology so more consumers can hear about milk’s health benefits.”

Dairy farmers and industry representatives are encouraged to share tour information with their local schools to help increase viewership.

Remaining fall tour dates and hosts are:

Thursday, October 29 – Fantasyland Farms, Robesonia, Pa., at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Thursday, November 20 – Adventure Dairy, Bombay, N.Y., at 10 a.m. and 1p.m.

The tours offer two sessions on the same day at each farm, including:

  • For Grades 6-12 – A deep dive tour that focuses on how farms use technology and experts to provide care for their animals and the land.
  • For Pre-K- Grade 5 – A general tour that covers three primary areas on the farm – where calves live, where cows live, and where cows are milked.

The free teacher-developed student lesson plans meet Common Core Standards for elementary, middle and high school classes.

Offered in real time, the tours allow students and teachers to ask the farmers questions.
