IRVING, Texas — As part of its ongoing celebration of everyday Americans who make extraordinary contributions to their communities, Wonder® bread is, for a second year, inviting American families to nominate inspiring teachers for the 2012 7Wonders of the USA Teacher Tour program.
The 2012 7Wonders of the USA Teacher Tour honors selfless contributions of American teachers and the ways they inspire a sense of wonderin students by giving them the chance to visit and teach a lesson from one of America's 7Wonders. This year, Wonder will send the seven lucky 7Wonders teacher winners to locations that celebrate American heritage: the Freedom Trail® in Boston, MA; Gateway Arch in St. Louis, MO; Gettysburg National Military Park in Gettysburg, PA; the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, PA; the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, TN; "Old Faithful" Geyser in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming; and Redwood National and State Park in California.
The schools of each of the 7Wonders winning teachers will also receive $1,000 to help plan field trips to wonders in their local communities. Plus, families who nominate inspiring teachers can enter for a chance to win one of 7 Family Field Trip packages, which include $300 for travel expenses and a digital camera to capture all the memorable moments created on the journey.
"As families prepare to go back to school, Wonder is paying tribute to the teachers who make a difference in the lives of children and families across the country," said Stephanie Fletcher, Brand Manager for the bakers of Wonder. "Throughout history, American teachers have helped prepare our children to take on the challenges of tomorrow and encourage them to follow their dreams. With the 2012 7Wonders of the USA Teacher Tour we have a chance to thank our country's educators and send seven winners on teaching adventures to historic American destinations while encouraging schools and families to get out and explore wonders across America."
From now through October 5, 2012, consumers can nominate a Wonder-ful teacher by visiting the 7Wonders of the USA website at www.7wondersoftheusa.com. The first 8,000 people to nominate will receive a special $1.00 off coupon for new Wonder® Smartwhite™ for Kids bread, which is baked with no high fructose corn syrup and offers the nutrition that parents want and the delicious Wonder taste that kids love. Smartwhite for Kids provides the same amount of fiber as 100% whole wheat bread, the calcium of an eight ounce glass of milk and has only 50 calories per slice. Two slices of Smartwhite for Kids contain nine essential vitamins and minerals, including iron, vitamin D and folic acid. The bread also has 25% less sodium than regular white bread.
An addition to Wonder's Smart bread line, which includes Smartwhite™ and Smartwheat™, Smartwhite for Kids is the latest in Wonder's long history of products with enhanced nutrition. Wonder's most popular breads – Wonder Classic and Wonder Classic Sandwich – provide the same amount of calcium as eight ounces of milk and are good sources of vitamin D, which helps the body absorb calcium better. Wonder was one of the first brands to introduce a white bread made with whole grain – Wonder Made with Whole Grain White – and Wonder was also one of the first major bread brands to include nutrition information on its packaging.
Wonder Smartwhite for Kids and all Wonder's varieties can be found on the Sandwich Wonder-izer® which enables consumers to create billions of unique sandwich combinations from a list of more than 120 ingredients, while, at the same time, showing users how close they come to fulfilling the daily recommended amounts of key vitamins and minerals.
