This is Officially America’s Favorite Thanksgiving Pie

Instacart data shows that orders for this classic dessert surged more than 2,000% the day before Thanksgiving, far outpacing every other pie on the holiday table

Pumpkin pie is the most-ordered Thanksgiving dessert, according to Instacart data. The San Francisco-based delivery app shared its overall ordering data from 2024 transactions to give us an overview of customers’ habits. 

Given the widespread saturation of pumpkin in grocery stores this year, any mention of “pumpkin spice” might get some eye rolls. However, that flavor fatigue hasn’t affected actual Thanksgiving plans — the pie still dominates Instacart orders before the holiday. Instacart trends analyst Alex Orellana says many customers still stick to that familiar tradition. 

“While many people claim [pumpkin pie’s] not their favorite, our data tells a different story. The share of orders for pumpkin pie surged more than 2,000% the day before Thanksgiving, showing that pumpkin pie will likely be a part of the dessert table,” Orellana tells Food & Wine. “Other Thanksgiving staples like apple and pecan pie follow close behind, but there’s room for some flavor twists, too, in our top ten.”
