Since 1983, founder and former structural engineer Athena Uslander has been hand-crafting brownies, old fashioned bakery bars, cookies, crispy rice treats and natural food bars for the consumer as well as customized products for wholesale clients. Recipes developed by Athena are handmade with locally sourced, high quality all natural ingredients in small batches, preservative and trans-fat free. The family run business is a recognized brand known to consumers, foodservice and retailers for making all natural desserts, crafted by heart and hand. What does it mean to “craft by heart and hand?”
Thirty years ago, Silverland Bakery founder Athena Uslander left her job as an engineer to follow her passion. With her nimble hands and love of baking, she set out to change the craft. Using all natural ingredients and recipes perfected through the years, Athena’s creations became a standout. Since 1983, Silverland’s master artisans have handmade brownies, bakery bars and cookies with the same love and care. The Silverland team is proud to share their love of baking with everyone from the patrons of their bake shop in Forest Park, IL to their wholesale and online bakery customers.
About the Athena Fund for Women and Girls
After being chosen as an international model and spokeswoman for Unilever’s Dove® Pro-Age™ campaign, Athena toured the globe talking about aging, self esteem, and being a female entrepreneur through press outlets like Oprah and The Today Show. Over the time blogging, touring, and being interviewed for the campaign, Athena found that women of all levels of success, age, looks, and nationality shared the common thread of not feeling beautiful (Dove’s The Truth About Real Beauty study uncovered the staggering statistic that only 4% of women think they are beautiful). Seeing this widespread lack of self esteem in women, Athena felt inspired to help women going though hardships get on their feet, help their families, and gain control of their lives. The fund gives grants annually to organizations both locally and internationally that help women and girls in need, especially though entrepreneurship programs.
