Los Angeles, CA: On October 24th, City Councilmember David E. Ryu and the Los Angeles Food Policy Council (LAFPC) hosted the 8th annual Food Day to raise awareness on local food issues. As part of the celebration, 15 Good Food Champions – one for each council district – were honored for their work promoting the good food agenda.
Maxine’s Heavenly was named Good Food Champion for District 5 by City Councilman Paul Koretz for their work with LAFPC. Aside from helping raise awareness and funds for the organization, Maxine’s Heavenly is working with them to build a Healthy Snack Coalition. This coalition would bring better-for-you snacks to corner markets in food deserts, where healthy food is often difficult to find and afford.
“We’re incredibly honored,” said CEO and Co-Founder Robert Petrarca. “We’re committed to building a triple bottom line business. Because we’re a small company, our financial resources are limited, but we know we can still make a positive impact on our community. We connected with the Los Angeles Food Policy Council to see how we could be of assistance using resources we did have like time, knowledge, and passion. We are humbled by the work they do, and we’re excited by the possibilities for deeper impact as we continue to grow.”
The Los Angeles Food Policy Council (LAFPC) works to ensure food is healthy, affordable, fair and sustainable for all. Learn more about LAFPC at www.goodfoodla.org.
