AUSTIN – J. Skinner Baking Co. has partnered with Paris Junior College to provide job training using a $170,115 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). This training will benefit workers in the Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas area.
The grant will be used to provide 107 new and incumbent workers with customized technical and safety training for the new production lines to prepare them for new plant operations. Those trained will include general production workers, plant sanitation and groundskeepers, and machine operators. Upon completion of training, the workers will earn an average hourly wage of $17.02.
“This Skills grant reflects an important partnership forged between Paris Junior College and this local
manufacturer,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Hope Andrade. “The training that will result will allow this Texas employer the workforce it needs to grow while giving employees from this region the opportunity to advance their skill sets.”
From the program’s inception in 1996 through 2013, Skills Development Fund grants have created or upgraded more than 300,456 jobs throughout Texas. The grants have assisted 3,971 employers with their customized training needs. The Legislature allocated nearly $48 million to the Skills Development Fund for the 2014-15 biennium.
