Flowers Baking Will Reopen Former Hostess Bread Bakery In Lenexa

Flowers Baking Co. of Lenexa LLC will begin production this summer at the former Hostess Brands bakery at 8960 Marshall Drive in Lenexa.
Based in Thomasville, Ga., Flowers Foods Inc. paid $355 million to acquire Hostess's former bread brands, 20 bakeries and 36 depots in 2013.
The Lenexa bakery, which employed 197 before Hostess closed its doors, has been modernized via an investment estimated at more than $10 million. Kansas City-based Interstate Bakeries Corp. opened the 137,354-square-foot bakery to replace an outdated Kansas City location in 2002 — two years before IBC filed bankruptcy.
