CALABASAS For Stephanie Lemus, a mixture of candied bacon and a girlhood dream
to poke the Pillsbury Doughboy in the tummy has brought her closer to a $1
million prize.
Lemus, a technology specialist from Westlake Village, is one of 100 finalists in
what is known among devotees as the Super Bowl of all contests: the annual
Pillsbury Bake-Off. If her taste buds are spot on, her Candied Bacon and Apple
canaps that include Pillsbury pie crust, a combination of blue and cream
cheeses, and Granny Smith apples, will earn her $1 million and bragging rights
at the bake-off held in Orlando, Fla., on April 12.
“This is the mother of all bake-offs,” she said of the event that began in 1949.
“I grew up wanting to wear the blue gingham apron and pose with the Pillsbury
Doughboy,” she said.
