October 15, 2012 | 1 min to read
Crust — a baking company, in downtown Fenton will be one of 55 bakeries participating in The Bread Bakers Guild of America’s second annual International Bakery Open House on Saturday, Oct. 20.
Guild member bakeries in 27 U.S. states and three Canadian provinces will take part in the open house, which is part of The Guild’s 2012 event series, “The Cereal Series: Going With the Grain.”
Crust will be giving walking tours of the bakery every 30 minutes starting at 10 a.m. and ending at noon. Tours will start outside of the bread kitchen near the bell, which rings every time fresh bread is taken from the ovens. A Crust staff member will provide details about the bakery, history of bakeries, the demise of scratch baking in America’s kitchens, Crust’s mission and the classically trained bakery staff.
Tours will last about 10 minutes and end in the bakery’s retail area. Samples of some of the bakery’s 100 varieties of artisan breads, pastries and other baked goods will be available.
