Tops Markets' To Close "A Few" Stores

Tops Markets' plan to close "a few" stores has been approved by a federal bankruptcy court judge.

Tops hasn't said which of its 169 stores it wants to close, nor has it identified which ones are in jeopardy. But the Amherst supermarket chain now has court approval to move forward with its plan to identify underperforming stores and shut them down.

The court approved Tops' plan to hire a liquidation consultant and to follow procedures it established to close underperforming stores. Any store closings would have to be approved by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
