SYDNEY, N.S. – The federal Fisheries Department says a lobster fishery off eastern Cape Breton won't be extended to make up for days lost to bad weather and high seas.

Lorne Penny, acting area director for eastern Nova Scotia, said Wednesday a lobster season would only be extended to allow fishermen to safely retrieve their gear.

Fishermen in the Main-a-Dieu area have said they lost many days in the May 14 to July 14 lobster season.

Lobster traps also took a beating in the area.
