Canadian Beef Prices Grind Consumers

Local steak and burger lovers could have something to beef about this summer.

Retail beef prices in the United States have been slowly and steadily declining from historic highs two years ago that were largely the result of a years-long drought in cattle country.

Since then, the U.S. beef industry has rebounded, with this year expected to be the largest commercial beef production year since 2011, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Add to that a fiercely competitive grocery industry and, eventually, some decent weather, and beef prices could be just right for U.S. consumers this spring and summer.
