Maryland Oyster Advisory Commission Proposes Rotational Oyster Harvesting, Expanded Sanctuaries

EASTON — “More oysters in the Chesapeake Bay” is the “bottom line goal” of a draft proposal presented to the Oyster Advisory Commission’s Feb. 13 meeting in Annapolis.

But the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) published their reservations about the first draft of the Consolidated Strawman Management Plan Proposal and issued a statement panning portions of it even before the proposal was posted on the Department of Natural Resources website.

According to the DNR statement, “the proposal was based on deliberations at past commission meetings and includes stakeholder comments and recommendations from the commercial seafood industry, conservationists, environmentalists and watermen.”
