Hog Glut Means Consumers Can Bring Home The Bacon For Less

NEW YORK — Pork futures hit seven-year lows on Tuesday, after the USDA hogs and pigs report from last week revealed record levels for this time of year at 70.8 million head as of September 1, CNBC's Morgan Brenna reported afternoon on "Power Lunch."

"It's poised to get even bigger as well, with production peaking this quarter and 2016 on track to become the biggest year ever for pig production," she noted.

Some farmers and traders said they see packing capacity becoming overwhelmed by the supply of the herd in the next few weeks, according to Brennan.
