Succulents Burst Out As In-House Botanical Gems

Succulents are undemanding houseplants, as funky and colorful as costume jewelry. They shake up the scenery on the windowsill, and they are fun to grow and easy to arrange in miniature dish gardens.
Tender succulents nudged their way into the tropical sections of garden shops a few years ago, and as gardeners have discovered them, an irresistible selection has exploded.
Old-time hens and chicks, pencil cactus and jade plants were just the beginning, it turns out.
Succulents today are animated and architectural, bursting with character. They’re striking specimens in pots all by themselves, and little groupings of them are as much fun as a party.
