Pearson Farm Has Two Great Reasons To Celebrate National Pecan Month

Fort Valley, GA. – April is national pecan month. That is reason enough for the folks at Pearson Farm to celebrate, but this year they are beaming even a little brighter with pride. Pearson Farm has been honored with two great recognitions this year leading up to the annual observance.

In February, The University of Georgia announced the 33 finalists in the Flavor of Georgia contest and Pearson Farm’s cinnamon roasted pecans were recognized in the Snack Foods category. Over one thousand products entered and entries were judged on technical aspects such as flavor, texture, and ingredient profile.

In March, The Georgia Pecan Growers Association announced that their board had chosen Lawton Pearson of Pearson Farm in Fort Valley, GA as the 2016 Georgia Pecan Grower of the Year. The nominations were considered based on the individuals’ contribution to making a difference in the industry and their number of years of service. Lawton is a partner and 5th generation owner of one of the oldest continually family owned peach and pecan farm in Georgia, Pearson Farm.

“There is no bigger honor than being recognized for something you love doing”, says Lawton Pearson. “Pecans have been a large part of my family for generations and to be recognized in both ways is humbling. I am so very proud to accept this award on behalf of my family and everyone who works with us at Pearson Farm”.

ABOUT PEARSON FARM

Pearson Farm has been growing peaches and pecans on the same land for over 130 years. For five generations the Pearson family has farmed the red clay of Crawford County.  The duties involved in farming the land were willingly accepted as honorable, God given privileges as much then as they are today.  In 1885, Moses Winlock “Lockie” Pearson and his wife, Cornelia Emory “Emma”, moved to Fort Valley, Georgia and planted the first peach trees for the Pearson family. Now more than 100 years later, Pearson Farm grows both peaches and pecans on some of the very same land.  These products are packaged and sold fresh or cooked in our kitchen on the farm.  For more information, please visit www.pearsonfarm.com.
