Portland – Portland, OR-Alpenrose Dairy will capture audiences September 16th through the 19th when they host the Quarter Midget Racing Regional Championship. Approximately 180 of the league’s top racers, ages 5-16 will race around the 1/20 mile track aiming to become the next regional Quarter Midget champion.

The Quarter Midget racing is a family-oriented sport and involves racing in specially prepared Quarter Midget cars, which are scaled-down versions of actual midget racers, approximately 1/4 the size. The cars are built around a tubular frame and are fully suspended with springs or torsion bars and shocks. The cars, rules and safety procedures of the sport are designed specifically for kids.

Built in 1950, the Alpenrose track was originally inspired by Henry Cadonau’s son-in-law, Ray Birkland, who shared a passion for his children and racing alike. Now 60 years later, the track still provides the same fun, competitive environment it did when it was originally created. Alpenrose Dairy recently began hosting the Portland Quarter Midget Racing Association for their weekly meetings giving them the opportunity to provide the next generation with a fun and healthy way to play in Alpenrose’s backyard.
