AMSTERDAM–Dutch food retailer Koninklijke Ahold NV and Belgium's Delhaize Group are in talks about a possible merger, according to reports in Belgian newspapers.
The talks have started recently and are in an early stage, De Tijd and L'Echo reported Saturday, citing unnamed sources.
Ahold and Delhaize declined to comment.
A tie-up between the two food retailers has been the subject of speculation for years. The companies held negotiations about a merger in 2006, according to De Tijd and L'Echo.
