Can bagel crisps help feed the hungry?

They can if the Community FoodBank of New Jersey can sell enough of them.

The Hillside non-profit, which supplies food pantries around the state, has launched a business called Grains for Good through which it hopes to produce bakery goods to be sold at New Jersey farmers' markets and supermarkets. Its first offering is bagel crisps.

"We've been toying with the idea for about two years," said Richard Uniacke, director of market development for Community FoodBank. Last year, the organization won a $75,000 first prize in a Prudential competition designed to support non-profits that come up with creative ideas on generating revenue for their charitable missions.
