Organization poised to strengthen industry partnerships and advance consumer marketing for New York apples

FISHERS, N.Y. — The New York Apple Association (NYAA) is pleased to announce that Susan Chekow Lusignan has been named its next Chief Executive Officer. Drawing on more than 20 years of nonprofit leadership experience, Lusignan is well-positioned to advance NYAA’s mission of supporting New York apple growers and promoting the longterm viability of the state’s apple industry.

A Strategic Leader with a Proven Track Record

Throughout her career, Lusignan has built a reputation for disciplined organizational leadership, strategic marketing communications, and cultivating partnerships that deliver measurable results. Her experience navigating funding constraints, managing complex operations, and engaging diverse stakeholder communities reflects the same commitment to structure and accountability that NYAA’s grower members depend on. Colleagues describe her as a careful and thorough leader who brings strong preparation and clear communication to every stage of her work.

“New York’s apple industry is a living testament to the dedication, business acumen, creativity, resilience, and passion of our growers, and I am honored to champion their work as CEO of the New York Apple

Association,” said Lusignan. “I am excited to lead the organization’s efforts to drive consumer consumption of apples through innovative and effective marketing and high-impact partnerships. And I look forward to collaborating with the growers to highlight their critical contributions to the State’s historical and cultural heritage, economic sector, health/wellness space, and agritourism.”

NYAA, A Vital Voice for New York Apple Growers

As NYAA’s next leader, Lusignan will focus on strengthening internal operations, expanding consumer marketing initiatives, and identifying new funding opportunities that support the industry’s long-term health. She is committed to building strong relationships with NYAA’s grower members and the broader network of industry partners that are essential to New York apple production.

“We are thrilled to welcome Susan to the New York Apple Association,” said Carrie Wafler, Board of Directors and Job Search Chair. “Her background in nonprofit leadership, her disciplined approach to organizational management, and her commitment to this opportunity made her the clear choice for this role. We are confident she will bring the stability and strategic vision that will serve our growers and industry partners well.” Members and industry partners will have the opportunity to meet Susan at the NYAA Annual Meeting and the Premier Apple Forum this June.
