J & G Foods Recalls Ground Beef, Possible Foreign Matter Contamination

WASHINGTON – J & G Foods, Inc., a Sutton, MA establishment, is recalling approximately 33,948 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with plastic materials, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.

The ground beef products were produced on Dec. 23, 2014. The following products are subject to recall:

  • 1-lb. vacuum sealed packages of “Wegman’s Organic 93% Lean/7% Fat Grass-Fed Ground Beef.”
  • 3-pack containing three 1-lb packages of “Wegman’s Organic 93% Lean/7% Fat Grass-Fed Ground Beef.”

The products subject to recall bear the establishment number “EST. 8466” inside the USDA mark of inspection and “USE OR FREEZE BY 01/16/15”. These products produced were shipped to retail locations in Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

The problem was discovered after the firm received consumer complaints through retail establishments that the product contained small malleable plastic pieces.

FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.  Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Edward R Briggs, Quality Assurance Manager, at (508) 865-1101. Media with questions about the recall can contact Joseph Piperato, President, at (508) 865-1101.
