CORFU Operations may have been shut down for the holiday weekend but enthusiasm was in full swing Friday at Yanceys Fancy headquarters on Main Road.
Company Executive Vice President Mike Wimble and Marketing Manager Jodi Stahl were pretty excited about a wedge of red-flecked cheese named jalapeno peppadew cheddar. It earned them Best of Class in this years World Championship Cheese Contest. Conducted on the grounds of whats known as cheese country, Wisconsin, that win certainly means something for the Western New York business, Wimble said.
Were tiny on a national scale, he said. We will get recognition this way.
The jalapeno peppadew was a tweaked version of a milder peppadew cheddar. Not your typically known shiny-skinned fruit, a peppadew has a sweet flavor with a bold picante edge to it. The jalapeno kicks it up another notch with some peppery heat.
I think the reason for it winning the competition is that its not too hot and not to sweet, Wimble said. It fits a lot of categories. Its great for grilled cheese sandwiches and is great for fondue. Its great just to eat.
