Schnucks To Close Two Stores In Rockford, Ill.

Schnuck Markets Inc., the St. Louis-based grocery chain, said Thursday it will close two older and smaller stores in Rockford, Ill.

Low sales and costly operation led to the decision to close the stores May 31, the company said. All 139 employees will be offered jobs at other Schnucks groceries in the Rockford area, where it will continue to operate eight stores.

Also on Thursday, Schnucks closed in-store restaurants and eliminated a total of 24 full- and part-time jobs at the East State and Loves Park groceries in Rockford.
