Valley fruit farmers join together to buy Prima Wawona farmland for $91 million

Nearly all of the 13,000 acres of farmland formerly owned by Prima Wawona have been sold following its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing on October 13, 2023, due to over $600 million in debt. Only about 1,300 acres remain from what was once the nation’s largest tree fruit grower, packer, and shipper, formed by a merger of two significant farming entities, Gerawan Farming and Wawona Packing.
It took several months, but nearly all of the 13,000 acres of farmland that became available after the collapse of Prima Wawona fruit company have been sold.

The company, a merger of two longtime farming empires, Gerawan Farming and Wawona Packing, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Oct. 13, 2023 after succumbing to more than $600 million in debt.
