IDDBA's 22nd Annual Cake Decorating Challenge Winner Announced

The winner of the International Dairy Deli Bakery Association’s (IDDBA) 22nd Annual Cake Decorating Challenge is Katie Knowles, Marketplace Food and Drug Inc., Minot, ND. The event was held at IDDBA 17 in Anaheim, June 4-6.

Second place went to: Meghan Rolls, Harps Food Stores Inc., Springdale, AR. The third-place winner was: Kassie Mather, Hy-Vee Inc., Cedar Rapids, IA.

Jay Ward, Cars Creative Director from Pixar Animation Studios, presented Meghan Rolls with the Disney/Pixar Award of Excellence.

There are three phases to the competition. Each contestant will decorate enough cakes to fill one multi-level, eight-foot bakery case; decorate a themed cake, and decorate a tiered wedding cake.

The judges were: Mark Bastian, Dawn Food Products, Inc. , and Dustin Humpherys, Maplehurst Bakeries, LLC.

Each day was open to attendees to vote for their favorite decorator for the People’s Choice Award. Winners are:

·         Sunday: Kassie Mather

·         Monday: Katie Knowles

·         Tuesday: Kassie Mather
