Dole Partners With Labor Of Love In Saying 'Thank You' At The Conclusion Of The Salinas Season

SALINAS VALLEY, CA – Last week Labor of Love, in partnership with Dole, surprised a cauliflower harvesting crew, as they arrived to the field, with breakfast burritos as well as gift cards to Wal-Mart in order to say, “thank you” for all the hard work that these men and women do each and every day for the agriculture industry.
This particular harvesting crew stands out beyond their dedication to their work. They are a true team. In 2010 they lost a crew member (wife to the crew’s driver Andres Villasenor) to breast cancer and in her honor they wear pink every Friday during harvesting season and in October.
“I couldn’t have chosen a better crew to wrap up the Salinas season with. Their comradery really moved me,” said Jenna Hanson Abramson of Labor of Love.
Dole is the concluding Agriculture Company for this season of Labor of Love in Salinas Valley. The program is headed back to Yuma where they will partner with Dole, again, for the winter farming season; just as they did in 2015 for Labor of Love’s kick off year.
“For us to sell the best products, the best products have to come out of the ground,” said Danny Urbano, senior vice president of administration at Dole Fresh Vegetables. “We have the most dedicated farming and harvesting crews, and just wish to let them know how much they are appreciated.”
The Labor of Love program, which was started by the Yuma Fresh Vegetable Association (YFVA), provides an opportunity to thank those for their service to the agriculture industry. President of YFVA and grower Steve Alameda shared, “Harvesting is a difficult profession and requires a commitment and unique set of skills. When we find the right workers, we want to make sure we take care of them, respect them and celebrate their invaluable contribution to the industry. This program showcases our work force and thanks them for their hard work.”
In addition to surprise breakfasts delivered to various farms and random acts of kindness to farm workers the Labor of Love program has a website and a Facebook page with posts devoted to sharing the stories of various farm workers.
Through the Labor of Love program, thousands of farm workers have been personally thanked for their hard work and their stories have been shared with millions within the Yuma and Salinas Valley communities and beyond.
The program was a success in its first year in the Salinas Valley and has now kicked off the Yuma season for its second year. Each week Labor of Love will be highlighting different farm workers and their companies. Stay tuned to the Labor of Love Facebook page and the website www.LaborOfLoveYuma.com to see where the Labor of Love team will share their gratitude next.
