WALLINGFORD — Calise Bakery, a supplier of bread products to grocers throughout New England, has opened its first Connecticut distribution center in Wallingford.

“It’s a historic time for the company,” said Michael Pritchard, the bakery’s vice president of sales. “The brand has been in Connecticut for a number of years now, but we have never distributed through our own distribution center. It has always been through a third party.”

The family-owned company, established in 1908, distributes to over 3,000 retailers from Maine to Northern Virginia, Pritchard said. Its products are sold at Stop & Shop, ShopRite, Wal-Mart, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Sam’s Club, Big Y and PriceRite. It is the company’s fifth distribution center in New England.
