Recent consolidations in the lime industry have led to speculation on the future evolution of various lime entities but one marketer continues to hold strongly to its independent status. Newly renamed Sicar Farms (formerly Limex Sicar) boasts 35 years of growing experience in Mexico and 15 years as a U.S.-based company marketing limes.

“Sicar Farms is a family business with strong roots in the ag industry,” says Dan Edmeier, Vice President of Sales. “The company concentrates on building strong, sustainable relationships with national and regional retailers by staying focused on year round supply with consistent quality and service. Sicar Farms remains proud to be a company its customers can rely on during good times and bad. With the consolidation taking place in the citrus world, Sicar stands ready to support its customers.”

In 2015, Sicar marketed more than 3.5 million cases of limes, a 57.5% growth over the previous year. The company projects 48% growth in 2016, estimating 5.7 million cases. “Sicar is one of largest, vertically-integrated lime companies in the world with year-round supply,” comments Luis Gudino, CEO. “Our structure has enabled us to grow from 499,000 cases in 2011 to the 5.7 million we expect this year.”

The vertically integrated nature of the company serves as a strong foundation for future growth and its ability to provide consistent sourcing, delivery and service for customers. “We control 5,000 acres of limes and our goal for the next 5 years is to reach 10,000 acres of limes and 2,000 acres of lemons,” says Edmeier. “We operate our own transportation fleet in Mexico and the U.S. giving us full control over the movement of our products which in turn helps us better serve our customers.”

Sicar Farms, formerly Limex Sicar, is a grower of citrus, fresh fruit and greenhouse tomatoes. It is headquartered in the state of Colima in Mexico and operates a marketing/distribution facility in Texas. The vertically integrated company controls the entire production chain from trees to harvest and packing to distribution and delivery. Sicar is committed to the highest quality standards to ensure the safety, integrity and reliability of its supply.
