The niche grocery market in Central Florida is among the hottest in retail real estate, as new concepts are jockeying for space in key submarkets to capture a piece of the action.
And even existing concepts are starting to tweak their plans to better compete in the crowded market — which came up during an Aug. 31 seminar on grocery growth statewide during the International Council of Shopping Centers Florida Conference at the Orange County Convention Center.
Jim Sud, executive vice president of growth and business development at Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods Market Inc. (Nasdaq: WFM), was one of the speakers on the panel and shared some insights on the upscale grocery chain’s new “off-price” 365 by Whole Foods Market concept that’s now in development.
