MIMINEGASH – A sunny sky and calm seas greeted south side lobster fishermen Tuesday as Prince Edward Island’s fall lobster fishery got underway.

The season was originally scheduled to open on Monday, but with wind in the forecast, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, in consultation with representatives from the P.EI. Fishermen’s Association and the Maritime Fishermen’s Union in New Brunswick, decided on Friday to issue a variation order delaying the opening by one day.

Fishermen on the wharf in Miminegash Tuesday morning acknowledged conditions would have been fine on Monday, but after setting in foul weather conditions last year, no one was arguing with this year’s delay.
