We all come across them sometimes, flowers that start to show brown spots and sometimes the complete bud drops from the stem. The spots start as a very tiny small white grain. In that stage the fungus (Botrytis) that causes this, is not yet destroying the appearance of your bouquet but it can develop into an ugly brown rotten spot in a few days. The good news is: you can prevent this!

Put simply, avoid  buying flowers with the initial symptoms of it. But that can be easier said than done, however  very difficult to avoid, despite that of course with your experience you know which suppliers have the better quality flowers. Time of the year, sensitivity of certain flowers and even varieties to Botrytis can also play a role.

What can you do as a florist to prevent development of this into brown spots?
