GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Despite a massive outbreak of avian influenza, consumers shouldn’t expect to see price increases or shortages in eggs and poultry products at their local supermarkets.

As avian influenza has swept across Minnesota, more than 2.6 million birds have died or been killed to prevent further spread of the epidemic. Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton declared a state of emergency Thursday, the first Minnesota agriculture emergency declaration state officials can recall.

In North Dakota, two farms in the far southern part of the state have had confirmed cases of avian influenza as well.
