Mariano’s Plans New Store On Former Steel Mill Site In South Chicago

Mariano’s plans to open a 70,000-square foot grocery store at the former site of a major U.S. Steel mill in South Chicago.
Bob Mariano, the chairman and CEO of Mariano’s parent company, Roundy’s Inc., made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon along with officials including Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Governor Pat Quinn, and Dan McCaffery, the chairman and CEO of McCaffery Interests, a real estate development firm working on overhauling the area now known as Chicago Lakeside.
The store, at the intersection of 87th Street and S. Lake Shore Drive, is set to be the largest grocery store within 4-1/2 miles, Mariano’s said.
