BYRON TOWNSHIP, MI — An uptick in store sales helped SpartanNash beat Wall Street’s expectations for the first quarter of fiscal 2014.
The Byron Township grocer reported Wednesday, May 21, revenues of $2.33 billion compared to $780.3 million last year. The nearly 200 percent increase was primarily due to the $1.5 billion in sales generated as a result of the November 2013 merger with Nash Finch Company along with a comparable store sales increase of 2.5 percent and new business gains in the food distribution segment.
Sales for the quarter, which ended April 19, benefited from the later timing of the Easter holiday that pushed the post-Easter week of low volume sales out of the first quarter and into the second quarter this year, the company said.
