How Upstate NY-Based Chobani Surged To Top Of The US Yogurt Market

It took less than four years after its launch in 2007 for Chenango County-based Chobani to emerge as the No. 1 maker of Greek yogurt in the United States. Back then, of course, the Greek-style was still a fairly small segment of the overall yogurt market.
This year, as Chobani completes its first decade, it has vaulted into the No. 2 spot nationwide in the total yogurt market, passing the one-time yogurt powerhouse Yoplait.
"And we just make Greek yogurt," said Peter McGuinness, Chobani's chief marketing officer. Yoplait and Dannon, the nation's No. 1 brand, make both Greek and non-Greek yogurts.
