Free, fair and reciprocal trade for U.S. agriculture was the resounding message from Agriculture Under Secretary Ted McKinney at the U.S. Apple Association’s 2019 Outlook and Marketing Conference in Chicago. McKinney spoke at the 124th annual meeting of apple growers and businesses about the importance of a “two-way street” in trading partnerships.

USDA Seeks Nominees for the National Potato Promotion Board

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking nominees to fill 73 producer and importer member seats on the National Potato Promotion Board. The nominating process will conclude Aug. 15, 2019. USDA will appoint individuals to succeed members whose terms expire Feb. 29, 2020.

USDA Announces Availability of Petition for Deregulation of GE Petunias

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is inviting public comment on a petition from Westhoff Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH (Westhoff) seeking deregulation of a petunia variety genetically engineered (GE) to produce orange flowers. The petition will be available for public review and comment for 60 days.
