Governor Murphy Recognizes Retirement of Secretary of Agriculture Douglas Fisher

Governor Phil Murphy today marked the retirement of Department of Agriculture Secretary Douglas Fisher. Fisher has served as Secretary since 2009 under the Corzine Administration and after 14 years of dedicated service to the state’s agricultural community, his retirement is effective tomorrow, July 1, 2023. Assistant Secretary Joe Atchison III will direct the department, assuming the responsibilities of Secretary.

New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher visited Larchmont Farms in Salem County today to highlight the Jersey Fresh peach harvest. The visit took place as Larchmont Farms is beginning to harvest, pack, and ship peaches.

New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher visited Viereck Farms in Gloucester County to highlight the Jersey Fresh tomato harvest and other local produce. The visit took place as Viereck Farms starts to harvest tomatoes, one of the several types of vegetables it grows.

New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher marked June as National Dairy Month as the USDA highlighted Spring Run Dairy in Hunterdon County, which features its own creamery and sells Jersey Fresh milk, as one of the industry’s success stories.

NJDA Hosts Annual BBQ at Demarest Farm, Eastern Produce Council/Nolan Family Foundation Scholarship Awarded

The New Jersey Department of Agriculture hosted the Eastern Produce Council’s Annual BBQ at Demarest Farm in Hillsdale, NJ, on Tuesday, May 23rd. EPC President, Marianne Santo, on behalf of the Nolan Family Foundation and Theresa Nolan, announced the winner of this year’s $5,000 EPC/Nolan Family Foundation Scholarship, Maren Burns, daughter of EPC member Brendan Burns of Bolthouse Farms.
