MDMR Announces Shrimp Season to Close West of Gulfport Ship Channel; Additional Waters South of Intracoastal Waterway Remain Open

Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) announced today that beginning Monday, May 1, 2023, all waters south of the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) and west of the Gulfport Ship Channel in Mississippi territorial waters are closed to shrimping.

Shrimp Season to Close North of ICW on Jan. 1, 2023

Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) remind shrimpers that all waters north of the Intracoastal Waterway will close at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023, as provided by law and the regulations of the MDMR.

MDMR to Accept Applications for Seafood Processors Pandemic Response and Safety Block Grant Program beginning July 1

This program, funded by the Pandemic Assistance provided in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, will assist in defraying the expenses of preparing for, preventing exposure to and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic for seafood processing facilities and processing vessels.

Mississippi Shrimp Season Opens

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources has set the opening date of the 2022-2023 shrimp season in state territorial waters for 6 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

Mississippi Department of Marine Resources and MDAC to Manage $1.6M Grant from USDA for Seafood Processors, Facilities and Vessels

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) and the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce (MDAC) will manage a $1,606,446 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to support seafood processors, processing facilities and processing vessels through the Seafood Processors Pandemic Response and Safety Block Grant Program.
