IDFA Applauds U.S. Government Action at Dispute Hearings to Resolve Canadian TRQ Administration Issues

The governments of the United States and Canada yesterday concluded an oral hearing on the dispute between the two countries related to Canada’s unwillingness to administer dairy tariff-rate quotas (TRQs) in compliance with the country’s obligations under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). ational Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) today endorsed U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai’s establishment of a second formal dispute settlement case over Canada’s manipulation of dairy tariff-rate quotas (TRQs) under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The announcement follows a third round of consultations with Canada that added new legal claims against its TRQ administration. These claims are consistent with IDFA’s priority concerns with Canada’s failure to comply with its USMCA TRQ commitments.
