In addition to serving as the EVP of the Florida Tomato Exchange and Florida Tomato Growers Exchange, the new hire will also be the manager of the Florida Tomato Committee, which is a federal marketing order that enforces quality and packing standards on Florida tomatoes. The FTC also supports research and education efforts and conducts promotional activities to spur consumption of Florida tomatoes. 

Florida Tomatoes are Available Despite Impact from Hurricane Ian

Florida’s November tomato crop will be smaller than normal due to the impact of Hurricane Ian, but Florida will remain a significant supplier from now through December.  The weather since the hurricane has been ideal, allowing growers to quickly recuperate fields.  This means that even those farms that sustained damage will be able to harvest a portion of their crop.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is proposing changes to the handling requirements under the federal marketing order for tomatoes grown in Florida. The Florida Tomato Committee recommended a proposal to eliminate the standard weight certification requirement from the marketing order regulations.
