New Jersey Department of Agriculture Recognizes Farmers in Farm to School Program

Ferrnbrook Farms is a 230-acre preserved property with its oldest building being The Inn, built in 1760, which is the center of many activities. The farm’s Environmental Education Center is a non-profit 501-c-3 organization which engages several thousand children each year as they experience nature and learn about the sources of their food.

New Jersey Department of Agriculture Visits Jersey Fresh Peach Distribution Center   

New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Ed Wengryn highlighted Jersey Fresh peaches and National Peach Month with a visit to Eastern Propak in Gloucester County. Secretary Wengryn along with state and local officials toured the fruit packing facility to emphasize that Jersey Fresh peaches are readily available.

Farmers Market Week Celebrates Peak of Jersey Fresh Season

There are approximately 140 community farmers markets and 700 independent farmers markets in the state. Farmers who attend these markets sell produce they’ve picked at the peak of ripeness within 24 hours of sale to ensure the best taste and highest quality. 

Jersey Fresh Shore Distribution to Feature Tomatoes

The New Jersey Department of Agriculture will highlight Jersey Fresh tomato season as part of National Farmers Market Week on Monday, August 5, with special visits to the shore towns of Wildwood, Atlantic City and Seaside Heights where NJDA marketing staff will be on hand to distribute free Jersey Fresh grape tomatoes to beachgoers.

New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Ed Wengryn, U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service, and local representatives highlighted the success of the Summer Food Service Program in New Jersey with a visit to the Pemberton Early Childhood Learning Center in Burlington County.
