Northwest Aquaculture Alliance Adds Alaska Seafood Industry Veteran, Jeff Hetrick, to its Board of Directors

Hetrick, the current Director of the Alutiiq Pride Marine Institute (APMI) in Seward, Alaska, previously conducted salmon enhancement projects for private non-profits and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. He is a founding member of the Alaska Shellfish Growers Association and operated an oyster farm in Prince William Sound prior to the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

Work Still Hasn’t Started on Bucksport Salmon Farm 2 Years After it Was Approved

The proposed land-based Atlantic salmon recirculating aquaculture facility on about 100 acres along the Penobscot River would be one of the largest land-based aquaculture projects in the world, according to Whole Oceans. It received approval from the Bucksport Planning Board in 2019 and the green light from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection later that year.

US Aquaculture Production to Grow 18% in 2021 as Consumers Return to Restaurants

The largest driver of growth will be a rebound in seafood demand from restaurants after the COVID-19 pandemic suppressed eating away from home activity.

NWAA Issues Statement on the AQUAA Act

The Northwest Aquaculture Alliance (NWAA), an organization that represents aquaculture producers and suppliers in the US Pacific region, commends the work of US Senators Roger Wicker (R-MS), Brian Schatz (D-HI), and Marco Rubio (R-FL), for introducing S 3100, the bill known as the Advancing the Quality and Understanding of American Aquaculture (AQUAA) Act to the United States Senate.
