'Summer Of Shrimp: Fire It Up!' Sweeps Launches On Facebook

McLEAN, Va. – Seizing the power of Pinterest, The Shrimp Council introduces its Eat Shrimp pin boards.

Pinterest, the wildly popular social media network that allows users to visually share, curate and discover new interests by “pinning” images and videos, has become a huge magnet for recipe-sharing.  In fact, recipes are among an elite group of pins that are repinned 42-percent more than any other type of pin.

Sharing images of mouth-watering shrimp dishes with links to trusted recipes through Pinterest is a natural way to support The Shrimp Council’s goal of keeping shrimp in its top spot over all other seafood, explained Judy Dashiell, Senior Vice President, National Fisheries Institute/The Shrimp Council.

To celebrate its debut on the Pinterest platform, The Shrimp Council is hosting the “Summer of Shrimp:  Fire It Up!” sweepstakes with Weber-Stephen Products LLC, makers of the iconic Weber Grill.  Beginning today and extending through July 29, the sweepstakes calls all shrimp lovers and grilling gurus to follow Eat Shrimp on Pinterest where they can pin their favorite shrimp recipes, to show how they serve shrimp in style.

On July 31, four sweepstakes participants will be randomly selected to each receive the 2013 Performer® Silver charcoal grill (valued at $229), featuring Weber’s exclusive Tuck-Away™ lid holder, fold-down work table, One-Touch™ Cleaning System and handy lid thermometer.  In addition to the Weber Performer® grill, winners will receive a Weber Original® Stainless Steel Small Fish Basket (valued at $24.99) and a pair of Weber Original™ Stainless Steel Pincer Tongs (valued at $14.99).

“The trio of summer, shrimp and a Weber Grill is a sure winner,” said Jeanine Thompson, Events and Promotions Manager at Weber-Stephen Products LLC.  “Weber is proud to be a prize provider for the ‘Summer of Shrimp:  Fire It Up!’ sweepstakes.  This opportunity allows Weber and The Shrimp Council to offer our collective social media followers a unique way to expand their recipe repertoires with grilled shrimp specialties, while enjoying a chance to win Weber merchandise.”

“Weber Grills are the perfect complement to America’s No. 1 seafood,” said Dashiell.  “In partnering with Weber Grills, we are thrilled to offer our devoted Facebook fan base opportunities to win exciting Weber products, which are perfect for preparing grilled shrimp.”

Diving into Pinterest is a natural fit for The Shrimp Council, which first “dipped its tail” into the waters of social media in 2011 with the launch of the Eat Shrimp Facebook page.  Now, just more than two years later, the Eat Shrimp Facebook page has amassed a following of more than 76,000 self-professed shrimp lovers.
