PANAMA CITY — In an area where an abundance of oysters are being shucked daily, groups working on oyster reef restoration projects keep running into one problem.

“We’re shell limited,” said Patrice Couch, the director of the St. Andrew Bay Watch Water Quality Program, which is part of the St. Andrew Bay Resource Management Association.

To solve the problem, St. Andrew Bay Watch is hoping to start an oyster shell recycling program in Bay County, where restaurants and shuck houses would donate the empty shells instead of throwing them away.
