Baltimore, MD, October 13, 2010 – Giant Food® and Phillips Seafood launched the first Ultimate Crab Challenge Recipe Contest and Cook-Off this summer, inviting crab gourmets to submit their favorite original crab recipes (hot or cold) featuring 1 lbs of Phillips Crab Meat for the chance to win $1,000 and the opportunity to have their recipe featured on Phillips Harborplace’s menu. Standing out amongst the competition to be chosen as a finalist for the September 11th cook-off at the Maryland Seafood Festival in Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis, MD, Patterson Watkins’ California Crab Grilled Cheese took first prize for its taste and creativity.
Inspired by her favorite ingredients, Watkins caught the eye of the judges panel by combined Phillips’ jumbo lump crab meat, avocado, bacon, brie and sundried tomatoes to create a unique twist on the classic grilled cheese sandwich. Currently living in Pennsylvania and working as a retail manager for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Watkins is originally from Leonardtown, MD (near the Potomac River) and naturally adds blue crab meat to everything from omelets and stuffing, to pizza and burgers.
With simple cooking instructions and ease in preparation, this delicious recipe is an ideal fit for the Phillips Harborplace lunch menu. Beginning on October 1st, the winning California Crab Grilled Cheese is being offered for Phillips Harborplace restaurant guests to enjoy at a price of $10.99.
