Officials Limit Oyster Harvesting In Several Texas Bays

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas officials are not allowing oyster harvesting in parts of four Texas bays and are also severely shortening the season in another bay.

The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports (http://bit.ly/2e00SVj ) Texas Parks & Wildlife officials have called off the start of oyster harvesting in sections of Galveston, Matagorda, Tres Palacios and Lavaca bays. Oystering in Copano Bay will close Saturday.

The commercial oyster season runs from Tuesday through April.

The decision to limit oyster harvesting was made due to a lack of abundance of market-sized oysters, which are 3 inches or greater.
