Raleigh, NC – Two Triangle based seafood distributors dedicated to selling regional seafood caught by North Carolina fishermen have joined forces. Recognizing their aligned vision and mission, the two companies have decided to leverage their strengths and combine their efforts. Chapel Hill based Dock to Door, owned and operated by Amanda C. Miller, and Raleigh based Locals Seafood, owned and operated by Lin Peterson and Ryan Speckman, began collaborating on wholesale business in May 2013. Moving forward they will do business as Locals Seafood.
Independently, Dock to Door and Locals Seafood have been dedicated to selling regional seafood caught by North Carolina fishermen and to promoting Carolina classics like flounder, tuna and crab as well as abundant local catches that taste great even though they are not traditionally in high demand in the marketplace, like blueline tile, white grunts, and mullet. An important facet of this work includes supporting North Carolina watermen and the related industries that have been a significant part of our state’s economy for generations.
Both companies expect this partnership to allow them to better meet increasing consumer demand for seafood products that are responsibly managed and locally sourced. In addition to increasing sales and outreach throughout the Triangle, Locals expects this partnership to drive sales across the state and beyond. “In the few years that Locals Seafood has been in business, we have witnessed a surge in both wholesale and retail sales. Operating separately, our companies worked to achieve the same goal of educating people about the importance of buying high quality locally sourced, traceable products from the well managed fisheries off our coast. Working with Dock to Door will allow us to expand our reach and accomplish this goal more effectively,” says Peterson. Miller, who moved Dock to Door exclusively to wholesale operations in November 2012, stated that “We recognized our shared vision and saw great opportunity in joining forces. We’re enthusiastic about the doors this partnership will open”.
