Boston, MA – The National Fisheries Institute’s (NFI) Shrimp Council announced this week that it has broadened its scope to address industry issues. A newly formed Executive Committee will guide the Council’s agenda. The committee includes representatives from Sea Port Products, Contessa Food Products, Inc., Censea Inc., Mazzetta Company LLC and Rich Products Corporation, will serve a two-year term.
According to Shrimp Council Chairman, Bill Dresser of Sea Port, the group has focused on marketing for several years, but will now have a dual purpose.
“The Shrimp Council’s public relations and social media campaign is effective and will continue to be a major focus, however the Council will also address industry issues related to shrimp,” said Dresser. “Shrimp Council members want to make sure superior shrimp is available in the U.S. marketplace. We need to take a stronger leadership role on best practices, social issues and scientific research.”
Dresser said the Executive Committee’s initial meeting will include discussion of moisture retention agents, early mortality syndrome and the CVD Case.
Dresser also noted the success of the current “Shrimp & Pasta Party” Lent campaign on Facebook, with more than 60,000 consumers engaging on the page.
“Eat Shrimp has gained more than 19,741 fans on the Eat Shrimp page since Ash Wednesday,” said Dresser. “There is momentum across the Shrimp Council and we welcome all shrimp importers to join us.”
The Shrimp Council’s mission is to make superior shrimp products available in the U.S. marketplace. Council members source sustainable shrimp from around the globe for Americans to enjoy at home and in restaurants. Visit us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/EatShrimp
