McLEAN, Va. – To further encourage Americans to increase seafood consumption, the National Fisheries Institute this month has launched a new series of blog posts intended to help consumers build their seafood cooking skills.

The new cook-along series, called the “Seafood Supper Club,” is appearing periodically on the NFI’s popular Dish on Fish blog and is a product of the blog’s education initiative. The first Seafood Supper Club post went live June 7 and features a recipe and visual step-by-step guide for preparing Honey Garlic Shrimp Skewers.

“Since its launch in the fall of 2016, the Dish on Fish blog has become a trusted seafood resource for consumers,” said Judy Dashiell, Senior Vice President with the National Fisheries Institute. “Through the site’s content – which includes recipes, nutritional information and relatable seafood tips – NFI has effectively connected with consumers and encouraged increased consumption of seafood. To build on that momentum, the addition of an interactive feature such as the Seafood Supper Club provides an opportunity to specifically break down one of the barriers that prevents a lot more people from eating seafood at home, which is the simple fact that they’ve never learned how to prepare fish or shellfish.”

The easy recipes and step-by-step photos in the new cook-along series are designed to help consumers quickly get comfortable with – and actually enjoy – seafood preparation, Dashiell pointed out.

The Seafood Supper Club series in 2017 will include two additional posts spread over the remainder of the year. Seafood fans and others who want to learn how to cook seafood can follow along on Dish on Fish and the blog’s social media channels, including FacebookTwitter and Pinterest.
